Elizabeth was the daughter of John James of NC (1808-1881) and Mary Willis (1810-1888). She was the granddaughter of Charles James (1770's-1840's) and Mary Tinnie James of NC (1797-1860's). John and Mary James are buried in the James Cemetery, James Road, near Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Douglas County, GA. John and Mary  were married in Walton County, GA in 1827 and moved to Douglas County shortly thereafter. John James served as a judge in Douglas County, GA 1856-1861. Elizabeth was one of 14 children. Her daughter Sarah Elizabeth was appointed guardian of John W. and Joseph B. Baggett, orphans of Allen Jacob Baggett.
