Generation No. 1

1.  UZZIEL BAGGETT (THOMAS B.4, NICHOLAS II3, NICHOLAS I2, JOHN1) was born Abt. 1765.  He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for UZZIEL BAGGETT  (Uzziel means, “My strength is God.”)
Uzziel has been conjectured to be the father of Lawrence and Allen Baggett (Baggett Family Newsletter, Issue # 11, used with permission). This genealogy is mostly concerned with the descendants of Lawrence.  Census records giving Lawrence and Allen’s ages are compatible with early census records of Uzziel’s famly.  The fact that Uzziel had a brother named Allen also lends credence to the conjecture that he also had a son named Allen.  Uzziel is shown on the 1800, 1810, and 1820 censuses below.  Please note that one must subscribe to access the census records on Ancestry.com.

Andrew B. Baggett and his family are shown on Census page 233. Ancestry.com Image# 69. Andrew is a second cousin of Larry and Allen, and closely associated with their families, as seen in the move to Alabama.

L. Baggott and A. Baggotte are shown on a list of voters in Henry County dated October 7, 1833, and Lawrence is shown living in adjacent Coweta County while drawing in the 1832 Land Lottery.

Lawrence's date of death is estimated by his not moving to Alabama with Allen and Andrew B. Baggett, by his not being visible in the 1840 census, and by the fact that he is not shown in an 1840 land sale in which Lucinda and other daughters are represented by their husbands, but Martha "Patsy," Lawrence's wife,  participates in the sale on her own behalf.  All the children are there, selling the land inherited from their father ostensibly to their sister Nancy, represented by her husband, Silas Mosely.

LAND SALE

1840 14 Sep.  William Yarbrough, Silas Yarbrough, John R. Richards,  Martha Baggett, and Allen Baggett, all of Henry County, sold to Silas Mosely, for $300, 133 acres land, described as the west part of lots #59, 92, 93, Dist. 11, belonging to the Estate of Thomas Yarbrough.  Wit: Robert Cagle, J.P., Charles Walker, J.P.  Recorded 28 Sep 1840 DB J, p. 345.

Notes for MARTHA "PATSY" YARBROUGH:
Martha's age varied in the different censuses, but in 1870, she gave her age as 64, which would make her birth year 1806.  She  was the mother of Silas Mosely Messer Baggett and the stepmother of Mary Ann Lambert.  She married  Lawrence Jackson Baggett, was widowed by 1840, and then as Martha Baggett, neé YARBROUGH, married Seth H. Lambert in 1845.  Her son Silas Mosely Messer Baggett, married his stepsister,  Mary Ann Lambert, the daughter of Seth H. Lambert and Caroline (unknown).
The Leon County, Texas, Baggetts are descended from Martha Yarbrough's son, Silas Mosely Messer Baggett and Mary Ann Lambert.

The 1850 census of southeastern Carroll County GA  shows Martha in her marriage to Seth Lambert.  This was the second marriage for both Martha and Seth.  He is shown as Seth H. Lambreth 35,  and she as Martha 41; also shown are their first children probably born in 1844.  (View this census record in the Notes for Silas Mosely Baggett, who married his stepsister, Mary Ann Lambert, the daughter of Seth.)

Children of LAWRENCE "LARRY" JACKSON BAGGETT and MARTHA YARBROUGH are:

Baggett settled when he left Henry County. Both men came to Alabama around 1840. By this time, Allen had taken a second wife, Sarah A. Perhaps Lucinda died. We do not know what happened to Allen and Lucinda's little son.

In 1850, the year that  John Thomas was born to Allen and Sara. Allen moved to Jefferson County, GA, in time to be counted on the November 1850 Federal census with his wife Sarah A. and his daughter and son.
